William Polk Wright, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.C., is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and interventional cardiology.
Dr. Wright specializes in interventional cardiology, focusing on advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. He excels at implanting all cardiac devices including pacemakers, leadless pacemakers and all types of defibrillators (ICDs).
Born in Philadelphia but raised in St. Louis, Dr. Wright attended St. Louis Priory High School, for those who are curious. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and History from Duke University and his medical degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He completed his internship, residency, and fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Missouri – Columbia, where he also served as Chief Fellow.
With over three decades of extensive experience in South County, Dr. Wright has held significant roles, including Director of Cardiology at St. Clare Hospital and St. Anthony’s Medical Center; and Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the STEMI program, Chief of Medicine, and Vice President of the Medical Staff at Mercy South. His research contributions and numerous clinical trials, such as TRITON TIMI-38, PEGASUS, SAVE, and RE-DUAL, have made a substantial impact in the field of cardiology.
Dr. Wright stays current on the most advanced interventional cardiology procedures, always prioritizing patient safety and health. He resides in Frontenac, MO, with his wife, Jennifer Piekarski Wright. His commitment to patient care and medical excellence makes him a valuable asset to St. Louis Heart & Vascular.
